Alyce Genevieve Crouter

Born Alyce Genevieve Chambers to Harry T. and Orris M. in Winthrop, Mass. Her parents, her brothers John and Fred and sister Eva predecease her. Alyce met her first husband Thomas A. Murray, Jr. while working at Swank, Inc. jewelers in Massachusetts. They were married for 29 years. They lived in W. Massachusetts and upstate New York, moving to Amherst, N.H. in 1968. Their children Kenneth Murray of Las Cruces, Robert Murray of Ward, CO and Meredith Murray of Bellingham, WA survive Alyce.

Alyce remarried Robert (Bob) W. Crouter in 1972. Bob and Alyce had a wonderful, full life which also included Bob’s 4 children, Jane Eyre, Farmington Hills, MI; Elizabeth Holter, Frederick, MD; Mark Crouter, Chevy Chase, MD; and Mary Crouter, Chevy Chase, MD and 7 grandchildren between them, community service in Amherst and world travels. They especially enjoyed wintering in their home in Nerja, Spain for 25 years. In the early 1990’s they began living in Charlottesville, VA as well where Bob died in 2006 and Alyce lived until her death. Alyce was a creative artist producing watercolors, oils, crewel embroidery, hooked rugs, braided rugs, needlepoint and beautiful landscaping. She was also an expert seamstress and enjoyed crocheting. She especially loved creating rock gardens and giving dinner parties.
