Aida G. (Pino) Nicholson

Aida G. (Pino) Nicholson, 85, passed away peacefully on the morning of April 5, 2011 at her home in Amherst, New Hampshire.

A resident of Niagara Falls, New York for 65 years, she and her husband relocated to New Hampshire in 1991 to be closer to her son Marvin and his family.

“Ida” as she was informally known, was born on October 9, 1925, and was one of eight children of Rafaela (Pellegrino) and Vincenzo Pino. She attended public schools in the Falls, and spent her early working years at the local Nabisco plant. She was a parishioner of St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church. She married John Angus Nicholson in 1950 after a brief engagement, and had two children, John J. Nicholson of Phoenixville, Pennsylvania and Marvin J. Nicholson (Linda) of Amherst, New Hampshire. The couple bought a home in the city in 1960, where she raised her family. She worked for twenty years at the local Sears stores before retiring in 1980.

Ida had three passions: reading, cooking, and especially enjoying time with her family. Growing up in such a large family, her parents’ home was the center of large family gatherings every Sunday and on holidays. These events created many lively discussions and countless memories for her.

It was this love of family that led the couple to relocate to New Hampshire after retirement. It was there where she and her husband embraced the role of loving grandparents to her two grandsons, Ryan J. (New York, NY) and Kyle S. (Boston, MA).

Ida was predeceased by her husband of 59 years who passed away in 2009, and three sisters; Antoinette DeMartino, Pearl Cirrito and Josephine Fruscione. She is survived by four siblings; Albert Pino, Theodora (Dora) Franciosa, Gloria Obleski, and James Pino; her two sons, her two grandsons, and two granddaughters, Cara Nicholson and Kailey Nicholson.

As Ida and John had wished and arranged through Rivet Funeral Home and Crematorium, Inc., Merrimack, NH, she will be laid to rest with cremated remains of her beloved husband at St. Joseph’s Cemetery in Niagara Falls, NY.

Memorial offerings can be made to the Arthritis Foundation, P.O. Box 96280 Washington D.C. 20077.
