George W. Thorell Sr.

George W. Thorell Sr., 91, resident of Manchester, NH, died December 27, 2010 at The Courville, Manchester, NH, surrounded by his family.

He was born in Manchester, NH on October 9, 1919, the youngest son of Andrew and Hannah (Dahlen) Thorell.

Mr. Thorell resided in Manchester for several years and formerly made his home in Amherst for most of his life. He and his late wife wintered in Spring Hill, Florida for many years.

He had been employed by Hitchiner Manufacturing Company in Milford for a number of years and later co-owned and operated Hy-Ten Die & Development Corporation, Milford. His business memberships included the American Society of Tool Manufacturing Engineers (ASTME).

Mr. Thorell was an avid golfer and a member of Amherst Country Club and the Salvation Army.

He was predeceased by his loving wife, Shirley (Morrill) Thorell and an older brother, Harry Thorell. He was a devoted father, grandfather and great-grandfather.

Family members include three daughters and sons-in-law, Nancy and Hugh Kiernan, Linda and Winston Grant, all of Amherst, NH, Cindi Thorell of Pembroke, NH; a son, George Thorell of Stuart, FL; six grandchildren, Michael Kiernan, Tracy Kiernan, Randy Grant, Candice Weingartner, Adam Thorell and Sheana Thorell; five great-grandchildren; two older brothers, Frank Thorell of Alabama and Andrew Thorell of Hooksett, NH; a sister-in-law, Marion Thorell of Bedford, NH; many nieces and nephews.

A memorial visiting hour will be held on April 30th from 10:00-11:00 am in the Smith & Heald Funeral Home, 63 Elm Street, Milford, followed by a memorial service at 11:00 am. Burial will be in Cricket Corner Cemetery, Amherst. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to the Salvation Army, 1 Montgomery Avenue, Nashua, NH 03060.
