Raymond G. Huber

Raymond G. Huber, 89, of McIntire Road, Nelson, NH, died Friday, May 27, 2011 at Langdon Place of Keene, NH.

He was born in Winchester, Mass., February 9, 1922, the son of Elmer R. and Alice M. (Hamilton) Huber. He grew up in Wilton, NH, graduating from Wilton High School. Following high school, he completed a machinist apprenticeship with Brown and Sharp Trade School in Providence, Rhode Island.

Mr. Huber was a World War II Navy veteran serving in the European Theater as an aviation machinist mate first class aboard the USS Albermorel which operated in the Atlantic and Pacific.

On May 23, 1943, he married Mildred Gutterson at the First Congregational Church in Wilton.

Following his military obligations, he moved to Keene where he was a machinist at the former Central Screw in Keene and the former American Optical Company of Keene. He then worked as head of maintenance with the Peerless Insurance Company and later for Franklin Pierce University. He later worked for Barker Engineering in Jaffrey as plant manager, and for Sylvania Company in Hillsborough, NH. Prior to his retirement, he opened his own business, Precision Machine of Nelson.

A resident of Nelson for the past 65 years, he was very active in community affairs. He served on the Board of Selectmen and was a 65 year member of the Nelson Fire Department, serving as fire chief for 15 years.

In his earlier years, he earned his Eagle Scout with three palms. He continued his love for scouting as a scout master for the Nelson Boy Scout Troops. He was a member of the Nelson Congregational Church, and a member of the Gordon Bissell American Legion Post 4 of Keene.

Mr. Huber enjoyed sailing and fishing. He built the home where he lived and where he enjoyed spending time with his family. He had a special love for dogs.

He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Mildred L. (Parsons-Gutterson) Huber of Nelson; two sons, Dennis R. Huber and his wife Judith of West Paris, Maine, Dean G. Huber and his wife Ruth of Stoddard, NH; a daughter, Lori Jaime of Peterborough, NH; four grandchildren, Daniel S. Huber, Alison G. Huber-Jewett, Michelle M. Huber, Owen M. Huber, and five great-grandchildren, Shayla Huber, Daniel Huber, Elizabeth Huber, Elizabeth Jewett and Nick Jewett, and a brother-in-law, Hedley Parsons and his wife Jackie of Mont Vernon, NH. A brother, Milton Huber, died earlier.

Funeral services and burial in the Johnson Corners Cemetery, Lyndeborough, NH will be private. The Foley Funeral Home (www.foleyfuneralhome.com), 49 Court Street, Keene, NH is assisting the family with the arrangements.
