Holly Frances Hungerford

Holly Hungerford, 46, died on Friday, July 8 in Williston, Vt. Born in New Hampshire in 1965, Holly was the first child of Joel and Valerie Hungerford. She lived in Amherst, N.H. until leaving to attend UVM in 1984. She graduated in 1988 with majors in music and environmental studies.

Holly worked for the towns of Williston and Shelburne, moving on to work with VPT, for several service-oriented businesses, and as a freelance writer.

But the heart of Holly’s life could be found among friends, family, church, and nature. Holly was a member of Trinity Episcopal Church in Shelburne. She used her music for outreach there and around the area. At VPT, she helped produce nature documentaries. She was a volunteer wildlife tracker, a birdwatcher, and a bee-keeper. With her husband Mike Gill she made their home a haven for foundling dogs and retired draft horses; these animals were among the luckiest creatures on this earth.

Holly’s extended family in the United Kingdom remained central to her throughout her life. Those who knew her, near and far, cherished her humor, thoughtfulness, tolerance, and generosity.

She is survived by her husband Michael Gill of Charlotte, VT, her mother Valerie Hungerford of Milford, New Hampshire, sisters Laura Bachmann of Burke, Virginia, and Amy Hungerford of New Haven, Connecticut, mother-in-law, Georgene Gill and sister-in-law Carlene Emmons, both of Williston, VT. She will be missed also by two brothers-in-law, five nephews and three nieces, thirty-three blood kin in the U.K. and countless friends. She will be remembered by two special dogs – Bayley and Duke.

In lieu of flowers memorial gifts may be sent to Trinity Episcopal Church, Shelburne, or to the World Wildlife Fund. Remembrances may be shared at hollyfrances.net. Arrangements by Stephen C.
