John P. McMahon, 74, of Amherst lost his battle with multiple myeloma on September 15, 2011, at the Community Hospice House in Merrimack surrounded by his loving family.

“Jack,” as his family and friends knew him, was born in Brooklyn, NY. He was predeceased by his father John McMahon, mother, Anne (O’Connell) McMahon and stepmother Grace (Emmons) McMahon. He resided in Brooklyn until he enlisted in the U.S. Navy. He proudly served his country on the U.S.S. Donner during the Korean War. Upon returning to Brooklyn he met and married his wife Barbara. They moved their family to Westwood, MA, where they resided for many years before moving to Amherst. Jack was a devout Catholic and parishioner of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Milford.

Jack retired from GE Capital where he was a Senior Account Executive for Commercial Lending. Jack received many accolades and awards during his 30 years with GE including membership in The Summit Club, The Pinnacle Club and the Exclusive CFD Club. He served on the Executive Board of NH Good Roads Association. He was able to enjoy many years of retirement as well as spending time with his family and enjoying his favorite pastime, golf. He was an active member of the Amherst Country Club. He played on several leagues over the years at ACC and won numerous tournaments. Jack made a hole in one on Amherst’s 13th hole and was also crowned Senior Club Champion in 2009.

He is survived by his devoted and loving wife Barbara of 52 years, his daughter Cathy and son-in-law Phil McCarthy of Milford, NH, his daughter Patty Avron of Milford, NH, his daughter Donna and son-in-law Jim Ripley of Woodstock, GA, his daughter Anne and son-in-law John Tomberlin of Fillmore, CA and son Bobby and daughter-in-law Irina McMahon of Gilbert, AZ as well as his grandchildren Katelin, Kyle, Stephanie, Ryan, Kayla, Kevin, Michelle, Emily and Sophia.
