Jean Hamilton Stevens

Jean Hamilton Stevens, 93, died peacefully at The Hunt Community in Nashua on February 17th. She was born on September 10, 1918 in Arlington, Massachusetts to Leicester Forsyth and Alma Nichols Hamilton.

Mrs. Stevens attended Arlington Schools, graduated from Cushing Academy in Ashburnham, Massachusetts and attended Skidmore College and Chamberlain School of Merchandising in Boston.

In 1939 she married John Bartlett Stevens, moving to Nashua in 1940.

Mrs. Stevens was a member of the Unitarian-Universalist Church and its Women’s Alliance. She served as a Trustee of Memorial Hospital (now Southern New Hampshire Medical Center) and was a member of its Auxiliary for over fifty years. She helped found the first gift shop at the hospital. She served on the Board of The Norwell Home and was its Treasurer for many years. She was a member of the Nashua Country Club.

Mrs. Stevens was predeceased by her husband and a daughter Carolyn Stevens Tew.

She is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law Suzanne and Peter Hamblett of Portsmouth, Holly and Larry Hornor of Amherst, her son John Stevens Jr. of Alna, Maine, her daughter-in-law Jennifer Stevens of Pacific Grove, California, ten grandchildren, Andy Hamblett of East Boothbay, Maine, Jenifer Hamblett Parker of Rye, Leslie Hamblett Gamache of South Dartmouth, Massachusetts, John Hamblett of Eliot, Maine, Nye Hornor of Amherst, Bart Hornor of Concord, Holly Hornor Cleary of Eliot, Maine, Hilary Hornor Boynton of Concord, Massachusetts, Megan Stevens of Tempe, Arizona and Chelsea Stevens of Durango, Colorado, as well as three stepgrandchildren, Mark Hornor of Cupertino, California, Richard Hornor of Framingham, Massachusetts and Elizabeth Hornor Boquet of LeMont, Switzerland. She is also survived by twenty-four great-grandchildren and her sister Helen Hamilton Paulsen of Exeter.

A Memorial Service will be held in the spring at the convenience of the family.
