Frederick LeBaron Hiltz
Frederick LeBaron Hiltz died at Wake Robin in Shelburne, VT, on Feb. 20, 2013. Fred was born Nov. 22, 1937 to Lester and Barbara (LeBaron) Hiltz in Boston, MA. He grew up in Milford, NH.
After public school there, he earned undergraduate and graduate degrees in electrical engineering at Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and a doctorate in physiology at Cornell University.
Most of his career was in medical informatics, notably in the development of pioneering hospital information systems in veterinary medicine at Cornell and human medicine at Brigham and Women’s Hospital. He served on the board that developed and standardized M, an American National Standard programming language commonly used in the field.
Fred married Ann Marion Vosburg of Strafford, PA on June 26, 1965. Together, they enjoyed a lifetime of piloting small aircraft, hiking, photography, Nordic skiing, and bicycling.
He is also survived by sister Katherine Bauer, nieces Donna Hardwick and Lea Hardwick, and nephew Dean Hardwick, all of Milford, NH.
Wake Robin will hold a Circle of Remembrance at 200 Wake Robin Drive, Shelburne, VT on April 20, 2013 at 2 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Wake Robin, especially the Endowment Fund.
