Ruth Bryant Ferguson
Ruth Bryant Ferguson, 91, a long time resident of Milford, NH, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on September 24, 2017.
Ruth was born January 6, 1926 in Cambridge, MA to Joseph B. and Mildred Prescott Miller. She grew up in Belmont MA and graduated from The Cambridge School of Nursing in 1946. She enjoyed being a delivery room nurse at Mt. Auburn Hospital in Cambridge and was proud of the many babies she delivered.
She met the love of her life, the late Charles W. Ferguson, while working summers on Nantucket Island. In 1955 they purchased a nursing home and settled in Milford. She raised eight children and enjoyed the Milford community.
She was honored to receive Milford’s Woman of the Year Award in 1987. She was a member of the First Congregational Church, UCC, Milford. She enjoyed her summers as the nurse at Camp Holiday. Her compassion for the elderly continued when she worked for the Souhegan Visiting Nurses.
Family and friends were Ruth’s love and joy. When she moved to Federal Hill she called her home “The Farm” and she enjoyed hosting many family reunions. Her interests included traveling to Hawaii; Europe; Ireland; raising Old English sheepdogs and swimming. Her collection of pets were a big part of her life and brought her great happiness. She had a contagious smile and a zest for life. She is predeceased by her husband, Charles; her brother, Robert Miller; and her stepmother, Dorothy Miller.
Ruth is survived by her children; Sandy Murphy, Laurie Ferguson, Craig Ferguson, Carla Ferguson, Kathryn Ferguson, Leslie Browning, Charles Ferguson, Jill Ury; 8 grandchildren and many great grandchildren. Other survivors include her sisters, Nancy Richardson and Janet McKee and her sister-in-law, Joan Hornaday. She also leaves behind her best friend, Ruth Rogers, numerous loving relatives and friends.
A celebration of her life will be held on Tuesday, October 3rd from 4:00 to 6:00 PM at the Mile Away Restaurant Event Tent at 52 Federal Hill Rd. Milford.
