Barbara J. (Laurence) Patten Parry

Barbara J. (Laurence) Patten Parry, 82, of Milford, NH passed away on July 15, 2018 after a prolonged illness.

Barbara was born on March 31, 1936, in Bellows Falls, Vermont. The oldest of three children of the late N. John Laurence and Doris (Mundell) Laurence Homer. She is survived by two brothers James A. Lawrence of Concord, NH and Donald Laurence and his wife Judy of Palm City, FL.

She was predeceased by her husband of 38 Years Victor Parry, as well as two of her children; Carolyn A. (Parry) Reichel of Santa Clara, CA and the late Edward E. (Chip) Patten Jr. of Belvedere, CA and the late step father Russell S. Homer. She is survived by three sons: Laurence J. Patten Sr. of Port Orange, FL, David A. Parry and his wife Roberta of Franklin, TN and Victor H. Parry and his wife Janie of Manchester, NH; daughter in law Andrea Patten of Novato, CA as well as nine grandchildren and two great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Barbara graduated from Milford High School and worked most of her adult life for New England Telephone, from which she retired after 30+ years. During the time with NET(Verizon) she held many different positions over the years.

She was involved in many organizations; belonging to the Rainbow Girls Club in Milford. She became worthy advisor as well as a Mother Advisor to this club. Awarded the Cross of Color for her work in that Order. A 63-year member of the Order of Eastern Star, a past Matron and past secretary of the Milford chapter. A 61-year member of the Rebekah’s in the state of NH. Former member of Custos Morum Rebekah Lodge # 23 (Milford), a former member of Olive Branch Rebekah Lodge # 1, A PNG and past secretary respectively, holding membership the state Jurisdictional Lodge. Belonging to the Nashoonon Ladies Encampment Auxiliaries # 1 of Nashua. A PCM and past scribe, a member of Auxiliary to Canton /Franklin # 15 in Concord. A PP and past secretary. She was an active member in the Rebekah Assembly of New Hampshire, served several times as a district deputy president and was a past president from 2006 – 2007. A past district deputy Matriarch for the Grand Encampment of NH and was a past second vice president of the Department Association, Ladies Auxiliaries Patriarchs Militant of NNE.

She was active in the American Legion Auxiliary # 213 and the VFW Auxiliary # 4368 of Milford. A past unit president and past secretary respectively. Barbara was active with the VFW Labor Day parade for years. She had the honor of being selected as Marshal one year. She served the town of Milford as Supervisor of the Check List for 30 years and was honored at a banquet. Volunteered at the Nashua Senior Center for several years until her illness. Barbara was also former member of the local and state Grange.

Visiting hours are on Monday, July 23rd from 6:00-8:00PM in the Smith & Heald Funeral Home, 63 Elm Street, Milford. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday at 10:00AM in the funeral home. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery, Milford. Memorial contributions in her memory may be made to Wounded Warrior Project, P.O. Box 758517, Topeka, KS 66675-8517.
