David F. Sweeney

AMHERST, NH – David was born in Bristol, Connecticut on July 7, 1931 and died in Nashua, New Hampshire on May 30, 2019.

David led an active life until his passing. After retiring in 1995, David traveled extensively with his wife Jean including trips to Australia, New Zealand and Africa. He was an avid golfer and enjoyed his long-time membership in the Amherst Business League. Other hobbies included: drawing, water colors, sailing, woodworking, home improvement, photography, reading, puzzles and classical music. 

David and Jean were residents of Amherst, NH for a majority of the years since 1976. David met Jean after graduating with a BS in Physics from Bates College in 1952 and while Jean was finishing up her Bates’ nursing degree at a hospital in Boston. David’s jobs then took them from Boston to Wellesley, upstate New York, northern California, New Hampshire, Michigan and back to New Hampshire. 

David led a successful career in the development of printer and peripheral technologies with a number of patents to his name.  His last position was as a Vice President with Digital Equipment Corporation.

David leaves four children, Janet of Orange, CA, Michael of Boulder, CO, Peter of Amherst, NH and Kathleen of Dallas, TX; and two grandchildren, Delaney and Corbin of Boulder, CO.  He also leaves a Scottish Terrier named Towsie.

Burial will be in Meadowview Cemetery, Amherst. For those desiring to share in his memory, the family would be thankful for contributions to philanthropic organizations since David was a strong supporter of humanitarian, preservation and conservation activities.
