Phyllis A. Hill

Phyllis A. Hill, 99, longtime resident of Amherst, NH died on July 8, 2022, at her home.

She was born in Lynn, Massachusetts on April 16, 1923, a daughter of Fred and Esther (Phillips) Vatcher.

Phyllis made her home in Amherst, NH for more than 65 years and recently was the recipient of the Boston Post Cane presented to her at the July 4th parade. She worked at Moulton’s Store in Amherst Village for many years. Following her husband’s retirement, they lived in Meredith, NH where she sang with the Sweet Adelines.

In her earlier years, she had been a Brownie and Girl Scout Leader. Phyllis had been an active member of the Amherst Congregational Church and was a member of the choir and served on a variety of women’s groups. She was a member of the National Grange and the American Legion Women’s Auxiliary.

She was predeceased by her husband, Richard N. Hill; her longtime companion, Leo Torosian; brother, Fred Vatcher; sisters, Marcia Bowler and Laurette Morley; and her son-in-law, Douglas Nelson.

Family members include two daughters and a son-in-law, Cynthia Nelson of Amherst, NH, with whom she made her home, and Susan and Patrick Miller of Morrisville, VT; four grandchildren; six great grandchildren; many nieces and nephews.

Memorial visiting hours are on Thursday evening, July 21st from 5:00-7:00 pm in the Smith & Heald Funeral Home, 63 Elm Street, Milford. A memorial service will be held on Friday, July 22nd at 11:00 am in the Amherst Congregational Church, 11 Church Street, Amherst, NH. Burial will be in Meadowview Cemetery, Amherst, NH.
