Elke Mason was born on January 20, 1939, in Wiesbaden, Germany, daughter of Werner Hohmann und Hedwig Bauer. She died at her home peacefully on Sunday, September 18, 2022. She moved to the United States when she was 22 and has loved the beauty of this country. Her greatest joy was hiking over the fields and through the forests. She did this mostly with her dogs, who were the greatest joy in her life. She loved working in her garden and watching the many birds who came to her feeders..

She is survived by her husband James Mason, a brother Wulf Hohmann and his wife Doris, a brother Peter Bauer and his wife Ursula. Three children: Marlene Bauer, Michael Scanlon and his wife Anne and Lisa Malboeuf. Two grandchildren Christen Patch and Mike Scanlon and a great grand-daughter Braelyn Patch.
