Raymond A. Holmes

Machias – Raymond Alden Holmes, 86, passed away surrounded by family on Tuesday, August 13, 2024, at Down East Community Hospital in Machias. Raymond was born in Machias on May 12, 1938, son of Alfred and Dorothy (Hall) Holmes.

Raymond, a dedicated individual, embarked on a remarkable journey after graduating high school in Machias. His path led him to the U.S. Army, where he dutifully served as a heavy equipment operator and mechanic in Germany. Upon completing his service, Raymond settled in Wilton, New Hampshire, and pursued a career in truck driving before transitioning to N.P.C. Corp in Milford, where he devoted himself until his well-deserved retirement. Even during retirement, Raymond found purpose working at Walmart.

A man of camaraderie and community, Raymond was a proud member of the V.F.W. His interests spanned from the tranquility of fishing and boating to the exhilaration of attending high school sporting events, reflecting his vibrant spirit. An unwavering supporter, Raymond’s loyalty to the Red Sox endeared him to many.

Above all, Raymond treasured his family, making cherished memories and spending quality time with them. His devotion to his loved ones shone brightly throughout his life, leaving a legacy of love and unity.

In addition to his parents Alfred and Dorothy Holmes, Raymond was predeceased by his longtime companion Janice Flanders; two brothers, Floyd and Lawrence; and five sisters, Helen, Isabelle, Lillian, Sarah, and Virginia. Surviving are his two children, Jackie Rivard and husband Raymond of Wilton, NH, and Victoria Cuddihy and husband Kenneth of Wilton, NH; two grandchildren, Dylan and Tiffany Cuddihy of Wilton, NH; his sister Betty Reynolds and husband Norman of Whitneyville, ME; and many nieces and nephews.

A graveside service will be held 1:30 p.m. Thursday, October 17, 2024, at Acadia National Cemetery in Jonesboro, Maine.
