Timothy J. Quinn Jr.

Timothy J. Quinn Jr., 77, of Hollis died on August 8, 2011.

Tim was born in Newton, Massachusetts to the late Timothy J. and Catherine (Doucette) Quinn. He had been a resident of Hollis since 1967. He graduated Our Lady’s High School in Newton, MA (1951); Ground Radio Maintenance School at Scott Air Force Base in Illinois (1954) before serving in the Korean War; and Tri State College in Angola, Indiana where he received bachelor degrees in both Electrical (1959) and Administrative Engineering (1960).

Tim’s career as an electrical engineer spanned over 25 years with positions at Raytheon and Aeronics Corporation in Chelmsford, MA, and at the former Lockheed/Sanders Associates (now BAE Systems) in Nashua, NH. He held various technical engineering and management positions in RF/Microwave design including those supporting the Pride and F-111 Programs, POET Program, ALQ/149 Program, and Fast Talker Program.

“Grumpy,” as his family called him, believed that he had carefully cultivated the perception of a hard exterior image. All who knew Tim however, found him to be a kind, and dare it be said, loving man who would offer the pressed shirt off his back along with a list of ideas (complete with sketches), to anyone who needed a hand with a project large or small.

Tim was an avid gardener and determined handyman. He focused on the fun to be had while fixing the problem, and viewed any apparent frustration of the issue as just another entertaining challenge to confront and conquer. He had the mind of an engineer and the soul of an artist, approaching all of his projects with optimism, curiosity, distracting daydreams, and a big smile.

Tim is survived by Sylvia Eggleston his longtime friend and love of 21 years, who cared for him in her home this past year; his three children (with Linda V. Quinn): Timothy Quinn of Hollywood, Maryland, William Quinn of Moline, Illinois, Kelly (and Scott) Gode of Bellevue, Washington; and two grandsons, Jackson and Benjamin Gode. Tim was one of 12 siblings including: Sister Mary Ann Quinn, Norma MacKay, Lawrence Quinn, Janet Shanshiry, John Quinn, Joseph Quinn (deceased), Bevan Quinn, Edward Quinn, Stephen Quinn, Robert Quinn, and Charles Quinn, all of Massachusetts.

Thank you to all of Tim’s family and friends for helping to make his final months a true celebration of life and to the wonderful people at Community Hospice House in Merrimack, NH. All are invited on Friday August 26th, to a brief burial service at Brookside Cemetery in Stow, MA at 11 a.m., and an afternoon ceremony at the Congregational Church in Hollis, NH at 3 p.m.
