Charles A. Hines

Mr. Charles A. Hines, age 51, of Fernandina Beach, FL, formerly of Hollis, New Hampshire, passed away on Thursday afternoon, January 9, 2014, in Fernandina Beach, FL.

Born in Banning, CA, Charlie and his family eventually settled in Bradford, VT, where Mr. Hines attended Oxbow High School and met his future wife, Cheryl Ann Conti.

After graduating, he enlisted in the U.S. Air Force, and he and Cheryl were married in 1981 in Biloxi, MS. Mr. Hines served as an Air Traffic Controller for the Air Force until being honorably discharged in 1989.

Upon his discharge he moved his family to Hollis, NH, to accept employment with the Federal Aviation Agency as an Air Traffic Controller at Boston Center. During his years living in the Northeast he and his family vacationed in Amelia Island many times, and in 2000 he accepted a transfer to Jacksonville Center, making Fernandina Beach the new home of the Hines family. Within the next few years he returned to Hollis, NH, and continued his career with the Federal Aviation Agency until retiring in 2012. He and his wife then relocated back to the island.

Throughout his career Mr. Hines was regarded with upmost respect from his employers and coworkers, and was often described as being a calming force in the control room. With deep love for family, friends, and the outdoors, he spent a great deal time in Bradford, VT; a place that held special meaning to him and his loved ones.

Mr. Hines leaves behind his wife of 32 years, Cheryl; their two daughters, Shelby Lynn Hines, a junior at Keene State College in Keene, NH, and Brandy Michelle Kolling (Hines), her husband, Phillip, and a treasured grandson, Charles William Kolling, of Graniteville, VT; his mother, Patricia Tarbox Hines, of Bradford, VT; two brothers, James Hines and Gregory Hines of Bradford, VT; a sister, Kimberly Hines, of Piermont, NH; and several nieces and nephews.

A service will be held at 3 p.m. on Saturday, January 18, at The Congregational Church of Hollis, 3 Monument Square, Hollis, NH 03049.

A Celebration of Life will follow at 4:30 PM at the Radisson Hotel, 11 Tara Blvd. Nashua, NH 03062.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to the Beaver Brook Association, 117 Ridge Road, Hollis, NH 03049.
