Marie R. Houvener-Kluis, 80, resident of Hollis, NH, died on December 31, 2014, at her home surrounded by her family.

She was born in New London, CT, on January 3, 1934, the daughter of Charles and Rose (Lake) Vlaun. She made her home in Hollis for the past 38 years after living throughout the world as a Coast Guard wife for more than 20 years. She summered at the family cottage on Baboosic Lake in Amherst, NH.

Marie always loved working and helping children and had worked in the Hollis School System for more than 10 years. She enjoyed going for walks, bike riding, rowing, boating, dancing and sewing. She shared all her love of life and hobbies with her pride and joy, which were her grandchildren. “Mimi,” as they called her, spent any free time she had with her grandchildren.

She was a longtime communicant of St. Patrick’s Church, Milford, NH.

Marie was predeceased by her first husband, Captain Robert R. Houvener, USCG (Ret.); two children, Donald Houvener and Donna Houvener; and three brothers, James, Frank and Louis Vlaun.

She is survived by: her husband, Harold “Harry” Kluis of Hollis, NH, and New London, CT; a son and daughter-in-law, Robert C. and Karen Houvener of Hollis, NH; a daughter and son-in-law, Lisa M. and Michael DiMare of Boxford, MA; four grandchildren, Laurie and Allison Houvener, and Kira and Karina DiMare.

Calling hours were Monday, January 5th from 6:00-8:00 p.m. in the Smith & Heald Funeral Home, 63 Elm Street, Milford, NH. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on Tuesday at 11:00 a.m. in St. Patrick’s Church, 34 Amherst Street, Milford, NH. Burial will be in East Cemetery, Hollis, NH.
