Simone ‘Sammy’ Mariette (Fournier) Hahn

Simone “Sammy” Mariette (Fournier) Hahn died peacefully at home in Merrimack on Monday May 22, 2017 at the age of 99 surrounded by three generations of family members. She was born in Manchester on January 6, 1918 to Joseph Noel and Claudia (Marquis) Fournier, who immigrated to NH from Gaspé Peninsula, Quebec, Canada. She had resided in Manchester, Seattle (WA), and in Merrimack NH since 1962, where she was a member of Our Lady of Mercy Parish.

After attending Catholic elementary schools in Island Pond, VT and Hudson, NH, she attended West High School and graduated from Central High School in Manchester in 1935. She worked at Mary Hitchcock Hospital in Hanover and Amoskeag Industries in Manchester before serving in the US Navy WAVES from 1944-1945 at Sampson Lake, NY. She met Carsten C. (Bud) Hahn who was serving in the US Army Signal Corps at Grenier Field in Manchester. They were married in April 1947, and recently celebrated their 70th anniversary.

Simone loved being with her family, playing cards, dancing, bowling, cooking, flowers, gardening, birds, trips to the ocean and mountains, and was a wonderful storyteller and conversationalist.

She was predeceased by a brother Lionel, a sister Gabriel and husbands Walden Gelinas and Joseph Lamy, a sister Germaine McNabb and husband Robert, and a sister Irene Roy and husband Edward.

Her family includes her husband of 70 years, Bud, of Merrimack; daughter Mariette Lefebvre Roux and her husband Dennis of Manchester, her sons Michael and his wife Sarah of Byfield, MA, Paul and his partner Lauren Berman of Manchester, and Ben and his fiancée Lauren Devane of Kingston, MA; daughter Christina Melanson and her husband Daniel, her son Kristopher Tabaknek of San Diego, CA and daughter Jennifer Brizendine of Winston-Salem, NC; son Thomas and his wife Catherine of Ashland, NH, their daughter Kristen and her husband Brian Barbetta of Boston, MA, and their son Philip of Montgomery, AL ; son David and his wife Eanne of Bradford, NH and their sons Lucas and Matthew; and seven great grandchildren.

Calling hours were in the Rivet Funeral Home, 425 Daniel Webster Hwy, Merrimack Friday May 26, 2017 from 9-10 AM. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated in Our Lady of Mercy Church, 16 Baboosic Lake Rd, Merrimack, NH at 10:30 AM. Burial with military honors followed in Last Rest Cemetery, Merrimack, NH.
