Elizabeth M. (Flanders) O’Gara

Elizabeth M. (Flanders) O’Gara, known to her family and friends as Libby, of Merrimack, NH died peacefully Saturday, Aug 5, 2017 at Bedford Falls Assisted Living Community in Bedford, NH. She was 97 years old.

Libby was born in Merrimack, NH on March 21, 1920, the daughter of Frank Flanders and Flora (Flanders) Keller. She graduated from McGaw Normal Institute in Merrimack. Libby was predeceased by her husband of 70 years, Francis J. (Ogie) O’Gara Jr.; a son, Francis J. (Buddy) O’Gara III and her son-in-law, William K. Phillips.

Libby was an icon in Merrimack and an active communicant of Our Lady of Mercy Church and the American Legion Women’s Auxiliary. She also worked for the Merrimack School District as a lunch lady once her youngest child entered school.

Libby loved spending her winters in Naples, Florida and summers on Moody Beach in Wells, Maine. The front porch at the beach house was her favorite place on Earth. It was there she would wave, smile and strike up a conversation with all the passer-byes. In Merrimack, NH, she was well known at the Lobster Boat, CVS, the Post Office and her favorite morning meeting place DW Diner. Yes, she drove there daily until March, 2017!

Members of her family include two daughters, Barbara Phillips of Nashua, NH and Kathleen Duhaime and her husband Michael of Merrimack, NH; her beloved grandchildren Sally Stephens and husband Kevin of Milford, NH, Jillian Arsenault and husband and Andrew of Weare, NH, Jon Duhaime of Merrimack, NH; her great grandchildren, Caitlen Herring and husband Justin of Nashua, NH, Anna Stephens of Wasilla, Alaska, Morgan Stephens of Blacksburg, VA, Chase Arsenault and Tenley Arsenault of Weare, NH and a great-great grandson, Jaxon Herring of Nashua, NH. She is survived by two brothers, George (Chip) Keller and his wife Deborah of Merrimack, NH and Richard (Dickie) Flanders of Garland, TX; her sister-in-law, Eleanor Flanders of Milford, NH and her brother-in-law, David Glover of Hollis, NH.

Libby was the matriarch of the family, the eldest girl of 10 children and predeceased by 7 of them. She was adored by many cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.

Calling hours will be in the Rivet Funeral Home, 425 Daniel Webster Hwy, Merrimack, NH Sunday Aug. 13, 2017 from 4-7 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in Our Lady of Mercy Church, 16 Baboosic Lake Rd, Merrimack on Monday at 9:30 AM. Burial will follow in Last Rest Cemetery, Merrimack.
