Chertian earns weekly honor
Saint Michael’s College women’s soccer senior and Amherst native Agi Chertien was named Northeast-10 Conference Defensive Player of the Week.
Chertien was the lone Purple Knight field player to appear for all 180 minutes last week, anchoring a defense that allowed one goal while yielding 12 shots and seven shots on goal per game. In a 1-0 loss at regionally-ranked Southern Connecticut State University on Wednesday, Saint Michael’s allowed only a 69th-minute goal and 10 shots, but no corner kicks. In a 1-0 victory over Franklin Pierce University on Saturday, the Purple Knights allowed just five shots to reach the net, as Chretien capped her career by helping Saint Michael’s allow two goals or fewer for the 40th time in her four years.
Since the beginning of her sophomore season, Chretien appeared in 46 of her team’s 51 games, making 35 starts. As a senior captain, 11 of her 16 appearances came in a starting capacity, including during each of the final six contests.
Maloney helps out Simmons
Simmons College senior and Amherst native Kaitlyn Maloney made her last Great Northeast Athletic Conference Championship race her best, smashing her previous record time by 55 seconds at 22:13 to place 34th.
Simmons tied for the lowest score, but finished second to Norwich University in a tiebreaker at historic Franklin Park in Dorchester, Mass.
