South, BG nines win; HB volleyball suffers first loss

Nashua South baseball is making a late push to try to make the Division I tourney, while Bishop Guertin is pushing to move up in the standings. Meanwhile, in boys volleyball’s big battle of unbeatens, it wasn’t good news locally.

Here’s your Wednesday Walkthrough:

BASEBALL

NASHUA SOUTH 7, MERRIMACK 5

Max Demers collected two hits and two RBIs to lead the Panthers (6-10) past the Tomahawks (2-13). Demers also struck out 10 and allowed no runs over six innings on the mounds. Adam Murray had a great game tallying two hits, two runs, two RBIs and a stolen base.

South hosts Londonderry on Tuesday and Merrimack visits Bedford on Friday.

PORTSMOUTH 9, NASHUA NORTH 8

The Titans played hard but came up short on the road, despite Tye Byrne and Dawson Bolton getting two hits apiece and Nolan Sullivan, Austin Suchecki and Mario Ramirez also chipping in. Now 4-12, the Titans host Timberlane next Tuesday.

BISHOP GUERTIN 6, MANCHESTER MEMORIAL 0

AJ Holmes struck out nine and allowed two hits in six innings in the Cardinals (9-5) shutout win over Memorial. Liam Ireland (hit, two runs, RBI, two stolen bases), Nick Wyner (hit, run, RBI, stolen base) and Ethan Drouin (triple, RBI) led the locals at the plate. BG visits Londonderry on Thursday.

SOUHEGAN 2, HANOVER 0

Brayden Hickman threw a complete game allowing five hits and striking out 10 in 83 pitches. Matt Silk (run), Joe Mayo (two hits, two RBIs), Jack Fiengo (hit) and Brody Smith (two hits, run, stolen base) led the offense to get the Sabers (13-1) a win in a close battle. Souhegan visits Plymouth on Friday.

HOLLIS BROOKLINE 17, SANBORN 4

The Cavs (10-3) win on the road in dominant fashion on Wednesday. Leading the offensive performance were Keenan Myers (hit, four runs, RBI), Tyler Gryniewicz (three hits, two runs, three RBIs), Dylan Morelli (three hits, two runs, three RBIs), Matt Bergin (three hits, three runs, three RBIs), Connor Gryniewicz (four hits, run, three RBIs), Renzo Bergskaug (two hits, two runs) and Thomas Howie (two hits, run, three RBIs). Connor GRyniewicz pitched three innings allowing two runs on five hits and striking out four. HB visits Hanover on Friday.

MANCHESTER CENTRAL-WEST 2, ALVIRNE 1

The Broncos (3-11) drop their fourth game in a row in the low scoring affair. Jaxson Polleck (hit), Mikey Bebris (two hits, run), Jameson Krueger (hit), Mikey McGowan (hit), Memphis Beach (hit), Grayson Polleck (hit) and Charlie Crawford (hit) played well for the locals. Alvirne hosts Timberlane on Thursday.

MONADNOCK 6, CAMPBELL 5

The Cougars (9-4) late game comeback falls short after being down 5-0 in the sixth inning. Brady Marcotte, Ivan Schafer, Braydon White, Noah Reed and Michael Grace had big hits to tie the game. Grace led with three hits in the locals 12 hit day. Luke Delia struck out nine over seven and two-thirds innings. Campbell hosts Gilford on Friday.

SOFTBALL

MERRIMACK 7, NASHUA SOUTH 2

The Tomahawks (11-4) rolled to their eighth straight win by defeating the Panthers (4-11). Marissa Nelson earned the win surrendering two runs on six hits and striking out nine over seven innings. Merrimack got on the board in the second inning after Allie Wyand and Lily Dionne hit a double and a single respectively each scoring two runs. Olivia Burke hit three with Nelson and Ashley Senecal collecting multiple hits of the Tomahawks 14 total.

Brooke Berger (two hits, two RBIs) and Maliyah Richer-Valentin (two hits) led the South offense. Merrimack hosts Bedford and South visits Londonderry on Friday.

BOW 15, MILFORD 1

The Spartans drop to 5-6 after a loss on the road to the Falcons. Mya Coombs had two hits, Nadia Dutton hit a single and Molly Miles had a RBI. Milford hosts Hanover on Thursday.

BOYS LACROSSE

TIMBERLANE 17, NASHUA NORTH 5

Nick Wilkinson scored three goals in the Titans (1-14) loss. Nico Bottari had two goals, Dylan Noble tallied two assists and Josh Parsons made 16 saves. North hosts Manchester Memorial-Central on Friday.

MERRIMACK 12, SALEM 0

Sean Anderson (assist) and Peyton Connelly each collected a hat trick in the Tomahawks (10-6) shutout win over the Blue Devils. Max Giles (two goals, two assists), Henry Tobin (two goals, assist), Nathaniel Bergen (goal), Cayden Dine (assist), Bret Vietry (assist), Colby Smith and Gavin Hickey had contributions in the win. Jake Miller tallied a goal and three assists in his return to the team since starting treatment for cancer. Mason Tremblay and Quinn Curren each saw time in net.

Merrimack visits Manchester Memorial-Central on May 28.

HOLLIS BROOKLINE 10, GOFFSTOWN 7

Bennett Torgersen and Mike O’Hearn scored four and three goals respectively in the Cavs (11-4) win over the Grizzlies. Noah Taylor, Colin Magnuszewski, and JP Torgersen (four assists) each picked up a goal. Mason Acheson, Vittorio Masoni and O’Hearn did well at face-offs. Levi Mitchell made nine saves while Deegan and Colton Herrera led the defense. HB visits Alvirne on Friday.

CONVAL 15, MILFORD 1

The Spartans record stands at 1-11 and visit Lebanon on Friday.

GIRLS LACROSSE

HOPKINTON 18, CAMPBELL 11

The Cougars sit at 3-6 with a loss to Hopkinton. Campbell hung in the entire game but could not overcome a fourth quarter surge by Hopkinton. Zoe Bourque had six goals and four assists, Lilli Wilson had two goals and three assists and Ava Grant added three goals in the loss. Campbell visits Plymouth on Friday.

BOYS VOLLEYBALL

COE-BROWN 3, HOLLIS BROOKLINE 0

The Cavs (12-1) lose their first game of the season in a battle of the undefeated by the scores of 25-14, 25-21, 25-23. Ethan Norris had 15 kills and recorded his 150th career ace. Sam Hersey collected 23 assists and Alex Howe had four kills. HB hosts Windham on Friday.

BOYS TENNIS

BISHOP GUERTIN 5, PINKERTON 4

The Cardinals No. 1 doubles team of Jack Kostansek/Max Moynihan picked up a tough 9-7 to provide the difference for the Cards, now 8-5.

Kostansek (8-2), Evan Deyak (8-0), Jonny Perrott (9-8, 8-6) and Chalie Dabrowski (8-6) picked up the valuable singles wins.

BG wraps up the regular season Friday at Hanover.

EXETER 9, NASHUA NORTH 0

It was a tough day for the Titans, although Connor McIneney and Jeet Panchal hung tough before bowing in singles 8-5 and the No.2 doubles team of Jack Desjardins and Domingo Reynoso lost a close match 8-6.

The Titans, now 5-8 with their regular season finished, are still in the mix for a berth in next week’s Division I tourney that starts next Tuesday.

WINNACUNNET 6, HOLLIS BROOKLINE 3

The Cavs finish the regular season at 11-3, winning only three singles matches. No. 3 John Torpey (8-0), No. 4 Sam Anthony (9-7) and No. 6 Dylan Legrow (8-5) came out on top.

The Division II tourney will start next week.

BOW 5, SOUHEGAN 4

The Sabers were only able to take two of six singles matches in the loss, with Patrick Bryson at No.3 (8-2) and Aum Pradhan at No. 6 (8-5) getting wins.

Doubles winners were Balthazar Glover/Carpenter Berube (9-8, 7-4) and Parker Schade/Patrick Bryson (8-3).

GIRLS TENNIS

BEDFORD 8, NASHUA SOUTH 1

Piya Chokshi got the Panthers’ lone win at No. 1singles, 8-1.

Now 8-5, South wraps up the regular season on Friday at Salem.

MERRIMACK 5, HOLLIS BROOKLINE 4

The Cavs lost a tight battle, getting only one doubles win from the No. 1 tandem of Anna Heiplik and Max Walsh (8-4). each of whom won their singles matches (8-1, 8-2 respectively. Vivienne Turcotte also got an 8-4 singles win.

Merrimack finishes the regular season at 9-5 while HB ended up at 8-6 and the teams will prep for the Division II tourney that starts next week.
