Civil War talk “The Peace at Appomattox” held

Former Manchester Fire Marshall and Civil War re-enactor Vincent Toland Jr. received a royalty check which he will donate to the Civil War Trust, a national organization devoted to preserving and protecting our Civil War battlefields. The ceremony took place at the Bedford Public Library on April 30 during Toland’s spirited presentation about the last weeks of the war. Who knew Abraham Lincoln entered Richmond while it was still burning, sat in Jeff Davis’ office, and went through his desk? The presentation was hosted by The Friends of the Town of Bedford Cemeteries, publishers of the book co-written by Toland, “Bedford Men in the Civil War.” All proceeds from the book’s sale go to repairing Bedford’s historic gravestones.
