Meals on Wheels recruitment drive

Meals on Wheels America, in partnership with the Ad Council, has launched an "America, Let’s Do Lunch" campaign to recruit volunteers to serve the nation’s most vulnerable citizens. More than 10 million seniors in the United States face the threat of hunger, and more than 15 million are living in isolation.

In Hillsborough County, 2,831 seniors are being served by St. Joseph Community Services Meals on Wheels. With the senior population projected to double by 2050, SJCS Meals on Wheels is joining the effort to help enlist a new army of volunteers.

Every day, SJCS Meals on Wheels volunteers help deliver more than 1,400 meals and provide visits and safety checks to those who need them most. For many seniors, the volunteer who delivers a meal is the only person they will see that day.

SJCS relies on volunteers to deliver meals, typically between 10:30 am and 1 pm, up to five days a week.
