Bedford Lions Club chosen for Hannaford Cause Bag program

BEDFORD – The Bedford Lions Club, a nonprofit committed to charitable causes for sight, medical relief, community functions and scholarships, has been selected as a beneficiary of the Hannaford Cause Bag program for the month of August.

The Hannaford Cause Bag program, launched in October 2015, is designed to support local nonprofits through the sale of the reusable blue-colored Hannaford Helps bag.

The Bedford Lions Club was selected by Hannaford store leadership as the August beneficiary of the program at the Kilton Road Hannaford store. For every Hannaford Helps bag with the Good Karma message purchased at the Kilton Road store, the club will receive a $1 donation.

“We are really excited about being chosen for the Hannaford Cause Bag program and encourage everyone to participate,” said Mike Sills, president of the Bedford Lions Club. “The Bedford Lions Club has many sight, hearing, disaster relief causes and community charitable functions to maintain and the money from the program will help us fulfill these missions.

“The Bedford Lions Club has a goal of raising $500 during this August drive, which is equivalent to people buying 500 of the reusable bags described.”

The club has been serving the Bedford community for more than 50 years and besides the international relief given the by its Crutches for Haiti program, the club is the sponsor of the Bedford Community Food Pantry, provides eye exams and other medical equipment for those in need, conducts eye screenings for the youngsters in Bedford and awards scholarships for Bedford students.
