Hannaford Cause Bag program selects Bedford food pantry

BEDFORD – The Bedford Community Food Pantry is committed to feeding the food insecure residents of Bedford has been selected as a beneficiary of the Hannaford Cause Bag program for the month of October.

The Hannaford Cause Bag program launched in October 2015 and is designed to support local hunger relief organizations through the sale of the reusable Fight Hunger bag.

The food pantry was selected by Hannaford store leadership as the October beneficiary of the program at the Jenkins Road and Kilton Road Hannaford store locations. For every reusable Fight Hunger bag with the message “This bag has helped feed someone in need” purchased at the Jenkins or Kilton Road Hannafords during October, the food pantry will receive a $.25 donation.

“We are totally dependent on outside contributions from the residents and businesses of Bedford to run the pantry and are very grateful that Hannaford has included us in this fundraising effort,” said George Reese, director of the food pantry.

The Bedford Community Food Pantry has a goal of raising $500 during October, which is equivalent to 2,000 bags bought. It needs to purchase some very basic family food stuffs, like cereal and fruit and is running short of these commodities that are always in demand and very healthy for its clients.

The Bedford Community Food Pantry is a nonprofit program of the Bedford Lions Club, based in Bedford. Founded in 2015, the food pantry has collected and distributed over 6,000 meals to the food insecure residents of Bedford.
