BEDFORD – Just two days before Thanksgiving, a two-alarm fire tore through 1750 Taphouse causing extensive damage.
According to the Bedford Fire Department, while en route, firefighters could see smoke billowing from the business at 170 Rt. 101 and called for a second alarm.
Upon arrival, crews encountered heavy fire in the back of the building, which was spreading up the side and into the attic. Firefighters cut holes in the roof for ventilation and to prevent further spread.
Employees were preparing to open later that afternoon when the fire broke out. They were all able to evacuate safely.
The preliminary investigation suggests that the blaze may have started in or near a shed behind the building. Because of its age, the building was not equipped with fire suppression sprinklers.
No injuries were reported and foul play does not appear to be a factor.
Owner Kayla Frank has set up a GoFundMe page at Support 1750 Taphouse Staff After Fire.
“So many of my friends have reached out asking how they can help. This fundraiser is the best way to support the incredible staff who have made 1750 Taphouse what it is,” Frank said in a Facebook post. “Every dollar raised will go directly to helping our employees get through this challenging time, covering essentials and easing the burden during the holiday season. Thank you to everyone who has reached out to us personally. We have received so many messages and I’m sorry if we haven’t gotten back to you. The outpouring of love has been tremendous. Please help us extend this to our employees, many of which work for us full-time.”
