Three local residents injured in snowmobile crashes

Zachary Nielsen, 23, of Merrimack, Kyle Basoukas, 31, of Bedford, and Lisa Wright, 58, of Hudson, all sustained injuries when they lost control of their snowmobiles.

According to the state Department of Fish and Game, Nielsen was riding in the North Country town of Stewartstown on the evening of Jan. 23. While making a left-hand turn, he accidentally hit the throttle and was thrown into a grove of trees injuring his lower leg.

The individuals who were with Nielsen helped him to the Swift Diamond Riders warming hut where they called State Police. Nielsen was later taken to Upper Connecticut Valley Hospital in Colebrook.

The initial investigation suggests that the crash was caused by inexperience.

Five days later, Basoukas flipped his snowmobile while riding in the parking lot of Bear Brook State Park in Allenstown.

According to Fish and Game officials, he hit a patch of ice, which caused him to lose control and flip the snowmobile.

Basoukas was wearing a helmet and was taken to Elliot Hospital in Manchester with serious but nonlife-threatening injuries.

On Feb. 1, Wright was riding down a steep trail in Woodstock when she lost control and flipped the snowmobile. As a result, she was thrown from the machine and suffered a leg injury. Wright was taken to Speare Memorial Hospital in Plymouth.

The initial investigation suggests that the crash was caused by inexperience and changing trail conditions.
