BEDFORD – Gold Award Girl Scout Vanessa Abbott recently earned the Service to Girl Scouting Bar.
She spent 20 hours during three days reorganizing the historic artifacts stored in a closet for Girl Scouts of the Green and White Mountains. The closet was overflowing with books, scrapbooks and other items the council collected and accepted from the public.
Abbott, 17, of Ayer, Mass., participates in a Nashua Girl Scout troop and previously earned the Gold Award, the highest possible honor for a Girl Scout in high school, for assembling a history of a one-room schoolhouse in her town.
This award is available to Cadette, Senior and Ambassador Girl Scouts – those in grades 6-12 by volunteering at a special event for younger girls, being an office assistant for a council or service unit or helping with special projects.
