Former Bedford teacher releases first book: Man on the Moon

BEDFORD – Pamela Harrington, a retired teacher from McKelvie Intermediate School, has released her first book, Man on the Moon.

The idea for the children’s book stems from the loving relationship that Harrington had with her grandfather.

The book was released on June 25 and is available on Amazon for $9.99.

“It seems to be resonating with people,” she said. “I’ve had it in my head for years. It’s a wonderful children’s book about a girl and her grandfather.”

Harrington said she spent 18 months working on the 30-page book, which is geared for children ages 6-9.

“It’s written in a young way,” she said.

Harrington pitched her book to 10 publishing houses and heard back from three of them, including Pegasus Publishers in the United Kingdom. She said Pegasus was the best fit as the company allowed her to remain fully involved throughout the publishing process.

“I really appreciated that,” she said.

In addition, Nightingale Books, a subsidiary of Pegasus, provided the illustrations.

“That was the hardest part,” said Harrington.

A graduate of Rivier University, Harrington remembered that she “fell in love” with her children’s literature courses. She went on to be a sixth grade special education teacher for 26 years, focusing on reading and writing.

Looking ahead, Harrington is planning to branch out and release other books for older audiences.

“I have two voices, 12 and under and adult,” she said.
