Bedford nursing assistant awarded $5k FedPoint scholarship
PORTSMOUTH — Bedford resident Peyton Kopp, a licensed nursing assistant at Elliot Hospital, was one of four recipients of this year’s FedPoint Nursing Scholarship worth $5,000.
“Funding for college can be costly and I am grateful for some respite with the financial burden often felt by those who pursue higher education. This job has given me so much to be thankful for. I have grown not only professionally, but personally, with the help and guidance of my wonderful mentors and colleagues,” said Kopp. “I learn something new every day. I am growing skills to navigate situations that require critical thinking in a fast-paced environment. Most importantly, I get to help the people in my community. I have explored many different careers, yet nothing is as rewarding as being in the medical field. I am eager to make a positive impact within my community as a future RN.”
The three other recipients include Tyanna Gero of Waterville, Maine, Brooklynn Lamke of Pittsfield, Mass. and Krysti Hall of Islesboro, Maine.
FedPoint, a benefits marketplace operator and third-party administrator, selected this year’s winners from a pool of more than 350 applicants. The number of applications has tripled since the scholarship program began in 2023.
The scholarship money will be used for tuition in further academic programs that each recipient must complete to become registered nurses.
“Nurses play a critical role in our health care system and I am proud to see these exceptional students choose to pursue a career in helping others and making our communities healthier,” said Gov. Kelly Ayotte. “I wish them all the best as they go to college and I encourage them to choose to grow their careers in New Hampshire when they finish their degrees. Thank you to FedPoint for supporting the growth of our health care workforce.”
Kopp has worked in the Cardiac Intensive Care Unit at Elliot Hospital in Manchester for the past four years. In that capacity, she is responsible for monitoring patients’ health and training new LNAs.
“Brooklynn, Tyanna, Peyton and Krysti embody the promise and passion of a new generation of nursing professionals,” said Brian Frankenfield, executive sponsor of Corporate Giving at FedPoint. “Nursing is a profoundly selfless profession and we’re encouraged by the growing number of individuals choosing this path. We’re honored to support these four hardworking recipients as they continue their education and commitment to compassionate care.”
