Wilton Heath and Safety Day set for Oct. 12
WILTON – The Wilton Community Center will sponsor a multi-agency health and safety day on Saturday, Oct. 12, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., at the fire station. The event is free with something for all ages.
Volunteers with the Fire Department will provide fire safety information including emergency escape plans, coloring books and activities for the whole family.
The Police Department will discuss the drug take-back box, pedestrian and home safety, and a new program, Wake Up Wilton, under which the elderly, disabled and shut-ins call into the department every morning. If they don’t call by 10 a.m., someone checks on them.
The Ambulance Service will have an ambulance on hand for inspection. They will offer free blood pressure checks, describe first aid procedures, the signs of stroke, and chest pressure resuscitation. The new Heimlich Hug choking vest will be demonstrated.
The Emergency Management Director will present a demonstration explaining the importance of having a family emergency plan in place and preparing a home or vehicle emergency kit for winter preparedness, using items you already have.
Nashua Public Health will be on hand for an immunization clinic offering shots for flu, pneumococcal pneumonia, Hepatitis A and B, as well as blood pressure screenings. Costs for shots is $10 and they accept Medicare. Bring you Medicare card, but no one will be turned away.
The Community Center will give out free smoke and carbon monoxide alarms as long as supplies lasts.
There will also be refreshments and information at the Community Center table.
The Community Center is a tax-exempt organization and contributions support the Center’s many activities and events.
