Minor injuries in three-vehicle crash that closed Route 101

MILFORD – Two people sustained minor injuries when an SUV, a sedan and a large utility trailer collided on Route 101 just east of Route 13 early Monday afternoon, forcing the closure of the heavily-traveled bypass for two hours.

Police Capt. Craig Frye, who provided only the first initial of the drivers’ names, said a Nissan Rogue, operated by C. Barreto, 55, of Hudson, was headed west on Route 101 when the vehicle crossed the center line and collided with the utility trailer, which was being pulled by a Ford F-350 truck driven by C. Chichia, 54, of Goffstown.

Frye said Barreto’s Nissan Rogue then struck a Nissan Sentra operated by G. Mayhew, 45, of Temple.

The heavily-damaged Rogue came to rest partially atop a guard rail, where firefighters used rescue equipment to free Barreto from the vehicle.

Barreto and Mayhew were transported to Nashua hospitals for treatment of minor injuries, Frye said.

Chichia and his passenger were examined at the scene and declined transport to the hospital, Frye added.

The investigation and clean-up caused the closure of the road in both directions, he said.

Assisting Milford police and firefighters were Amherst police officers and representatives of the state Department of Transportation.

Frye didn’t indicate whether police will file any charges as a result of the crash.
