Finan narrowly defeats incumbent Labonte
A tight race for the three-year seat on the Board of Selectmen highlighted Milford’s town and school district elections Tuesday, which drew 2,400 voters to the polls.
Incumbent selectman Tim Labonte, the board’s vice chairman, fell to former selectman Tim Finan by five votes. Finan came in with 1,084 to Labonte’s 1,079.
Finan served on the board from 2007-2013. He ran this year, he said, to be a watchdog on spending.
“We must be fiscally smart. While our first impulse might be to simply cut spending, we need to also seek out other revenue streams and stop depending on taxpayers to foot the bill every time,” Finan said in his statement for the 2022 Milford Voter Guide.
David Catanzano, the third candidate for the seat, had 82 votes.
In the other contested races, Bobbi Schelberg defeated David Delay for a six-year term as supervisor of the checklist, 1,145-812. Traci Swisher (1,518) and Jennifer Siegrist (1,137) won three-year terms as library trustees, ahead of Dan Sadkowski, 773. Dale White netted 1,510 votes to Eric Knot’s 491 for wastewater commissioner.
Cemetery trustees Mike Thornton and John Yule, town moderator Peter Basiliere, town clerk Joan Dargie, trustee of the trust funds Janet Spaulding and water-wastewater commissioner Hunter Philbrick were unopposed.
A warrant article to fund HVAC and electrical upgrades to the Wadleigh Library fell by 10 votes, 1,190-1,180.
Incumbent Michael McLean was ousted from his seat on the School Board, finishing fourth in a four-candidate field. Noah Boudreau netted 1,114 and Jason St. Jean had 1,121 votes, each winning three-year terms. John DeMarco 985 had McLean, 831.
