Milford senior receives NH State DAR Good Citizens Award
MILFORD – Ryann Anderson, a senior at Milford High School, received the N.H. State Organization of the Daughters of the American Revolution (NHSODAR) Good Citizens First Place Award for her essay on “How do the qualities of a good citizen (dependability, service, leadership, and patriotism) help support our nation?” at a luncheon held on Friday, March 11 in Concord, in honor of all winners from each of the state’s 24 NHSODAR chapters. Prior to receiving her award at the state level, Ryann won the MIlford’s Captain Josiah Crosby Chapter NSDAR, essay contest and will be awarded a scholarship at her school awards night in May. Her essay now goes on to compete at the north east region with a chance to be entered into the national contest.
The Good Citizens Award recognizes and rewards high school seniors who exemplify the qualities of a good citizen: dependability, service, leadership and patriotism. The contest is open to senior high students enrolled in accredited public or private schools. Each school may submit one student per year. The chosen student must submit an application including a record of scholastic achievement, description of extra-curricular activities and two letters of recommendation, along with their response to a proctored Good Citizens Essay. The participating students are not given any advance notice of the essay topic. The essay must be written within 2 hours and is limited to 550 words. It may be handwritten or computer generated but students are not allowed access to any reference materials or the internet except a dictionary.
