Garden club offers scholarship

HOLLIS – The Colonial Garden Club of Hollis awards an annual scholarship of $1,000 to a graduating high school student from Hollis or Brookline. Applications are due May 2.

This person must be accepted to a university, college or vocational program. He/she should either be planning to study in the field of environmental studies (i.e., agriculture, horticulture, botany, forestry, or landscape design) or be a child or grandchild of a garden club member.

Applications also will be accepted from students who are currently attending college following the criteria stated above and/or are related to a garden club member.

In the event that the club does not receive any eligible applications from graduating high school students, the scholarship will be awarded to a college student.

A 500-word typed essay must be written, outlining the applicant’s future plans and/or why living in the farming community of Hollis or Brookline has had a positive impact on his/her life.

In addition to the essay, applications must include a separate sheet of paper with the applicant’s name, GPA, school/university the applicant is attending, awards received, clubs, activities, athletics, volunteer work and future plans.

Applications should be returned to the guidance office at Hollis Brookline High School.
