Hollis and Brookline businesses set up ‘Meet and Greet’

Area businesses in Hollis and Brookline will host a meet and greet at the Lawrence Barn in Hollis, Saturday, April 28 from 10 a.m.-2 p.m.

Organizer Tina Carlson, of Carlson Tree Service, knows the value of word-of-mouth advertising in Hollis and Brookline and wanted to step up the name game and contact sheet for area homeowners.

“There are so many small businesses in our area, but often, homeowners don’t know how to get in touch with them,” Carlson said. “So I thought, ‘Why not put something on?’ and get the local businesses together along with a group of homeowners in one spot so that the two groups can have an opportunity to meet each other.”

The fee for businesses to participate is $50.

“I’m charging that fee as the Rotary Club sponsored me so I could use the Lawrence Barn,” Carlson said. “They’re not actually putting the event on. So I have to pay for the barn and then all of the proceeds will go to the Nick Jennings Scholarship Fund to help the kids out at the high school.”

The son of Dave Jennings, of Jennings Excavation, Nick was killed in automobile accident in 2004. In his memory, his father has set up a scholarship in his name.

There will be landscapers, hairdressers, real estate agents, pressure washing companies and more, attending the event, Carlson said. Confirmed attendees include Duval’s Forestry Products, Pioneer Tree Service and Spaulding Outdoor Services.

Carlson added that the meet and greet might become an annual event.

“I think it’s important and valuable that we do something like this,” Carlson said.

“We know most of the people in town, and we were at a gathering at a homeowner’s house and someone asked if we did cord wood, and I said, ‘No, but Steve Jambard does.’ And they asked, ‘Who’s Steve Jambard?’ ”

It occurred to Carlson that a homeowner in town might not know the company by name, so she introduced the idea of a meet and greet to the Rotary Club as well as several of her friends who own businesses around town.

“We’re inviting anybody and everybody,” Carlson said. “I think if we can get homeowners there to get a business card or two, then we’ll be happy.”
