Interact Rotary Club Members Warm Memory Care Residents’ Hearts

NASHUA, N.H. — For the second year, the Souhegan Valley Interact Rotary Club visited Bridges® by EPOCH at Nashua, a local memory care assisted living community, to spread Valentine’s Day cheer on Thursday, February 10.

Organized by the Interact Rotary Club advisor, Robert Moore, this event featured seven students, along with their parents, who gathered outside to paint the windows of the dining rooms with Valentine’s Day themed drawings. The event took place around dinner time, so the residents could watch with delight as the windows were transformed.

“Interact is a community-based club for students from the greater Nashua area, including Nashua, Merrimack and Brookline, and is sponsored by the Rotary Club,” explains Wendy Sage-Matsis, Senior Advisor at Bridges® by EPOCH at Nashua. “These clubs share the motto ‘service above self,’ and we’re honored that the students choose to serve our community for the second year in a row.”

“I spent some time talking with the club members prior to the painting, explaining who we are and what we do,” says Sage-Matsis. “One of the biggest questions of the night came when we were in our Brookline courtyard and one of the students asked why we had a Bus Stop sign out there – which allowed me to share our life enrichment philosophy of ‘Bus Stop to Nowhere’.”

Residents were able to safely engage with the students from indoors while they were painting. After each neighborhood was completed by the group, the residents clapped and waved to show their appreciation.

“This event is one way for us to continue bringing intergenerational opportunities to our residents’ daily lives in a fun, safe way,” says Sherene Abu-Hijleh, Life Enrichment Director at Bridges® by EPOCH at Nashua.

Bridges® by EPOCH is located at 575 Amherst Street in Nashua.
