Naturalist Susie Spikol to introduce new book for children at Beaver Brook in Hollis

Susie Spikol has been a teacher-naturalist at the Harris Center for Conservation Education in Hancock for over 30 years. She recently published her second book for budding young naturalists and will be introducing it on the grounds of Beaver Brook at 117 Ridge Road in Hollis at 11 a.m. on Saturday.

Forest Magic For Kids is filled with imaginative and informative activities that will engage kids with the natural world. Included are how to find fairies, make a secret fort, and cook up an elfin picnic. As Booklist writes “Science facts readily interweave with a smattering of folklore as the text and charming illustrations encourage kids to charge up their imaginations and get outside….The spirits of scientific inquiry and old-fashioned wonder coexist happily here and will delight magic-minded children.” This event is free and parents and children of all ages are invited to come for an entertaining and enthusiastic discussion of our natural world. Bring your own picnic for afterwards and enjoy the woods and trails that surround Beaver Brook.

Susie Spikol is also the author of The Animal Adventurer’s Guide for slightly older children which includes 50 hands-on activities and adventures that bring you closer to wild animals than you’ve ever been and the forthcoming The Book Of Fairies.

Beaver Brook is a non-profit nature education and conservation area with 35 miles of trails on over 2,200 protected acres located in Hollis, Brookline, and Milford, NH.

This event is co-sponsored by Balin Books at the Somerset Plaza in Nashua. For further information call the bookstore at 603-417-7981 or online at balinbooks.com.
