The Amherst Town Library invites you to a “Seeing through the Eyes of a Poet: Remembering Mary Oliver” on Thursday, April 4 from 7:00 to 8:30 P.M.

Beloved, prolific, award-winning poet Mary Oliver died on January 17th.  Oliver, whose work is greatly influenced by her love of the natural world and is infused with a deep spirituality, believed poetry “mustn’t be fancy”.  People responded strongly to her very accessible work, making Oliver one of the popular and poets of her time.  The New York Times described Oliver as “far and away, this country’s best-selling poet.”  Oliver was a New Englander – living in Bennington, Vermont and later, for many years, in Provincetown.

The Reverend Carol Strecker, Interim Minister of the Unitarian Universalist Church in Milford and a self-avowed lover of Oliver’s work, will present “Seeing Through the Eyes of a Poet: Remembering Mary Oliver” – a program that will honor her recent passing by lifting up the words and images that have helped so many look at life just a little more closely and see a little more deeply that which connects us to all that is.  If you have a favorite Mary Oliver poem, please bring it with you to share.

All adult programs offered at the Amherst Town Library are free and open to the public.  However, registration is REQUIRED for each program due to space limitations.
