Merrimack man drowns in Baboosic Lake

MERRIMACK – Jon Carter, 89, of Merrimack, was found deceased in Baboosic Lake on the morning of April 13.
According to the Merrimack Police Department, Carter, who reportedly suffered from dementia, had wandered away from his home on Carter Street sometime after midnight. At 7 a.m., his family reported him missing.
Merrimack Police and Fire as well as the New Hampshire Fish and Game Department searched Carter’s neighborhood and reviewed residential surveillance footage.
Carter’s body was located in Baboosic Lake at 11 a.m. Police do not suspect foul play and an autopsy was scheduled for April 14.
The lake covers 226 acres and straddles Amherst and Merrimack. It has an average depth of 10 feet and a maximum depth of 26 feet.
