Merrimack man charged with Michigan fire

MERRIMACK – Daniel Fournier, 23, was taken into custody on June 23 in connection with a fire at a Michigan lumber mill that he allegedly started in January.

According to the Merrimack Police Department, Michigan officers determined that the blaze was the result of arson and estimated there to be approximately $500,000 in damage.

Further investigation identified Fournier as the suspect.

Michigan authorities tracked him to Merrimack where he was placed under arrest during a traffic stop.

While searching Fournier’s apartment, investigators reportedly found a loaded pistol, a loaded rifle, several smoke and incendiary devices as well as evidence linking him to the fire in Michigan.

He has been charged with being a fugitive from justice.

Fournier was arraigned in Merrimack District Court and chose not to waive extradition. He is due back in court on June 30.

If he is charged and convicted of arson, under Michigan state law, he could face up to life in prison and a fine of up to $20,000.
