MERRIMACK – Merrimack Garden Club (MGC) members are spreading the news that this year’s MGC Annual Plant Sale on July 18 will now take place alongside American Legion Memorial Post 98, located at 43 Baboosic Lake Road.

Club Co-Presidents Teri Gordon and Jennifer Mayer-Cox concurred that the group is excited about the new location. The sale previously was presented on a grassy stretch alongside nearby St. James United Methodist Church (SJUMC).

The pair commended Nancy Capen, Cindy Baldvins, Pauline Landrigan, Diane Asai and April McDonough as stalwart plant sale coordinators. Sale proceeds help maintain several town gardens, procure program speakers and make civic donations.

“A lot of planning, donations and commitment from volunteers and local merchants make this fundraiser possible,” said Gordon.

Club members attending an event planning meeting on June 23 outside American Legion Post 98 chatted about the change of venue. They also decided upon the placement of grids denoting areas for perennials, houseplants, display gardens and silent auction items.

The sale volunteers eventually shared some snacks and divided up a supply of sturdy lawn signs to publicize throughout the town the Merrimack Garden Club Annual Plant Sale at Post 98 on July 18.

The sale site is the pavilion alongside the Post. The structure is a rustic wood building with a sloped metal roof that shelters tables for seating 80 people. Rentals of the facility for special events are frequent.

Club members are the green-thumbed stewards of town beauty spots including The Butterfly Garden at Watson Park, Veterans Memorial Park, Merrimack Public Library and the Merrimack post office.

American Legion Post 98, chartered in 1958, is known for supporting various community organizations and projects. Gordon and Mayer-Cox extend thanks.

The Merrimack Garden Club meets on the fourth Tuesday of the month in the function hall of SJUMC, 646 Daniel Webster Highway. Doors open at 6 p.m., with meetings beginning at 6:30 p.m. Guest speakers, workshops, seminars, socials and botanically focused field trips are on the activities roster.
