MERRIMACK – The big white Plaistow-based Coach Company bus driven by veteran operator Anthony Perkins, a seasoned driver and longtime emergency medical technician, arrived on Sept. 17 to Sunapee, New Hampshire, with members of the Merrimack Senior Citizens Club ready to board the M.V. Sunapee Lake Queen for a two-hour narrated tour and a catered onboard lunch.

“Our events and trips are great fun and the members enjoy the fellowship,” said Irene Jenness, club president.

A full roster of activities for the club is a constant. Bus trips, visits to regional playhouses for live performances, shopping forays to outlets and special in-club events are highlights of membership in the Merrimack Senior Citizens Club (MSSC).

The MSCC is based at the John O’Leary Adult Community Center, 4 Church St., in Merrimack. Meetings take place most Mondays, 1-3 p.m.

A Crazy T-Shirt Contest was a fun-filled activity featured at the meeting of Sept. 21. Prizes of lottery scratch cards awarded winners in various categories, rated by loudest applause.

Meanwhile, the M.V. Sunapee Lake Queen featured an upper deck with a scenic view of attractions along Lake Sunapee. The body of water is a glacial lake documented online as 8.1 miles long and 2.5 miles wide with a depth of 105 feet attributed to runoff from melting glaciers.

The lake is renowned for fishing, boating, kayaking and water skiing, along with a quaint town center whose attractions include restaurants and gift shops.

The MSSC is composed of 190 members 55-years old or more. Dozens of its registered members regularly attend the weekly meetings. Bingo events, Mahjong, Line Dancing, Stitches & Crafts and holiday socials are well attended.

The club’s events supplement funds earmarked as scholarships for seniors at Merrimack High School. Charity donations are frequent.
