Josephine DeSilva

Josephine DeSilva, long time resident of Milford NH, passed away peacefully at the young age of 104 in Ossining, NY. Her advice for a long life-Be kind to everyone, dance even if you’re in a chair and occasionally, it’s okay to take a nap! She was a very skilled gardener, excelled in every form of crochet, loved to dance, sing, play the piano, watch old movies and be surrounded by family. She will be missed dearly by her family and friends.

Josie enjoyed working as a baker, for over 30 years, for the Reader’s Digest in Pleasantville, NY. She and her husband Manuel, the love of her life, raised their two children, Manuel and Josephine, in Pleasantville NY.

She resided in Milford & Mont Vernon NH from 1972 to 2001 when she returned to her hometown area of Ossining, NY. She was a member of the Milford AARP and The American Legion.

Born January 11, 1915 in Ossining, NY, to Mary (Castriana) and Leonard Giampietro. She was oldest of 9 children with one surviving sister, Antoinette Zerga and brother, Paul Giampietro of NY.

She was predeceased by her husband, Manuel Perry DeSilva, their son, Manuel Adam DeSilva and son-in-law Thomas Farrington.

She is survived by daughter, Josephine Farrington of Briarcliff Manor, NY and daughter-in-law, Mary DeSilva of Milford, NH. Also survived by 7 Grandchildren, 16 Great Grandchildren and 4 Great-great Grandchildren. Granddaughter Cathy (DeSilva) Noyes of Mont Vernon, NH and daughters Katie & Annie. Grandson David & Karen DeSilva of Charlotte, NC and their children Ian, Ethan & Dana. Grandson William & Darlene DeSilva of Manchester NH and their children William II, Megan, Michelle Skinner, Melissa Heffernan, Alisa Wood and her daughters Allison & Ava (Great-great Granddaughters) and Danielle Cardinal and her son Lincoln (Great-great Grandson). Granddaughter Jackie (DeSilva) Weber and daughter, Sophia. Granddaughter Donna Farrington and her daughters Kristina Lafiandra and Alexandra LePage with son Grayson (Great-great Grandson) Granddaughter, Barbara (Farrington) Petnuch and husband Steve Petnuch. Grandson Thomas Farrington and children Chelsea & Thomas. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

There will be a Family Graveside Service, Saturday, November 9, 2019 at 11AM at Riverside Cemetery in Milford NH. Josephine will be laid to rest with her husband and son.
