Lynne Ryder Erdody

Surrounded by loved ones, Lynne Ryder Erdody, age 84, of Milford, NH, spread her wings and flew to her eternal family on May 14, 2026. Lynne was born in Framingham, MA, appropriately on All Saints’ Day, November 1, 1941, to Eileen (Hayes) Ryder and Stephen R. Ryder.

Lynne will be remembered for her big heart, welcoming smile, and quick wit. Lynne was one of the most loving, accepting, and, thankfully, forgiving people, who became the de facto “Mom” to many. For more than a few summers, Lynne welcomed “Fresh Air” kids from the Bronx, American Stage Festival employees, and others to join her family on Mont Vernon St. Despite having to raise five rambunctious boys on her own, Lynne still made time to attend every one of her children’s ball games, always put dinner on the table, and still managed to do the bookkeeping for her father’s company, Ryder Sand and Gravel. From 1983 to 2003, she also worked as Milford’s Deputy Clerk of Court, where “the nice lady at the court,” found confidence in the special way she served her “friends”.

In her golden years, Lynne enjoyed spending time with her extensive family, hosting “small” holiday dinners with sometimes 35 people, attending her grandchildren’s ball games and theatrical performances, as well as lunch dates with her many friends. Lynne was an ordinary person who had an extraordinary impact on everyone she met. She leaves a legacy of spirit that has had a ripple effect through her children and grandchildren.

Lynne had many roles in her life, but the one to top her “fun-list” was being “Grammy” to nine grandchildren: Averill, Zachary, Elizabeth, Gavin, Benjamin, Tucker, Jacob, Nolan, and Maxwell. “Birthday Shopping” time with Grammy will always be among the favorite memories of her grandchildren.

Lynne is survived by her children, Stephen and Cheryl (Davis) Erdody and Christopher and Jennifer (Kennedy) Erdody, all of Milford, NH; Mark and Kara (Kelliher) Erdody of Braintree, MA; and her son, John. Lynne was predeceased by parents, Stephen and Eileen, her son, Daniel, her sister Jerelyn “Peaches” Ryder, and her brother Stephen C. Ryder, both of Framingham, MA. All will no doubt welcome her with jokes and big hugs. Along with many nieces and nephews, Lynne is also survived by her sisters Sharleen Peters of Framingham, MA and Madeline Ryder of Milford, MA.

In a paper written during adult education at Rivier College, Lynne wrote: “To answer the question, ‘Who am I?’ I am the culmination of all the roles I have played throughout my life: daughter, sister, granddaughter, niece, cousin, godmother, sister-in-law, wife, mother, working mother, retiree, friend, senior citizen, and student. I am pleased to say they have resulted in a very happy person. “

Lynne always had a soft spot for the nurses that she encountered over the years. She was deeply appreciative of the compassionate care provided by the ‘angels’ at Catholic Medical Center, who provided her with the comfort and dignity that she so deserved in her final days.

A memorial service will be held at St. Patrick’s Church, Milford, NH on Friday May 29th at 11:30. A gathering will be held immediately following at the Brickhouse Restaurant, 241 Union Square, Milford, NH. Assisting the family with arrangements is the Cremation Society of NH, Manchester. In lieu of flowers we are asking for donations to be made to “SHARE Outreach, Inc.” 1 Columbus Avenue, Milford, NH 03055.
