Chester A. ‘Chet’ Whitten Jr.

Chester A. “Chet” Whitten Jr., 94, a resident of Milford, NH died at his home after a period of declining health on July 25, 2021, just ten days after the death of his loving wife, Joan.

He was born in Wilton, NH on August 7, 1926, a son of the late Chester A. Whitten, Sr. and Christine (Thompson) Whitten.

Chet was raised and educated in Milford and graduated from Milford High School, Class of 1944. Following graduation, Chet entered the United States Army serving in World War II and was honorably discharged in November of 1946 with the rank of Sergeant.

He had been employed in various road construction crews, Milk Plant Manager for Hayward Farms and later operated the family sawmill on Whitten Road until he retired in 1986. Over the years Chet maintained and upgraded their three family home, only recently allowing contractors to assist.

Chet married Joan (Anderson) and together made their home in Milford where they raised their three sons.

He enjoyed bowling, skiing, golfing, traveling, and socializing with family and friends.

In addition to his wife, he was predeceased by his granddaughter, Kayla Whitten.

Survivors include three sons, Gary Whitten and his wife, Patte of Phoenix, Arizona, Jeffrey Whitten of Blackstone, MA, and Peter Whitten and his fiancé, Wendy Foss of Dover, NH; a grandson, Keith Whitten, of Washington, DC; several nieces and nephews.

SERVICES: Memorial visiting hours will be held on Monday August 23rd from 4 pm to 6 pm in the Smith & Heald Funeral Home, 63 Elm Street, Milford, NH. Burial will be private.
