Claire (Edwards) Berwick

MILFORD – Claire (Edwards) Berwick passed away Dec. 29, 2023 in Milford after a period of declining health.

Claire, known by her childhood nickname “Bimi,” was born Nov. 4, 1947, in Peterborough, to Evelyn Mae (Kearns) and Franklin Wheeler Edwards. She was raised in Wilton and made her home in Milford.

After earning bachelor’s and master’s degrees in Education from Keene State College, Claire taught reading and second grade at Wilton Elementary School for 10 years. She later ran a craft business and worked as a bookstore manager.

Claire was a past member and Worthy Advisor in the Order of Rainbow for Girls in Milford and went on to guide many other young women as Mother Advisor.

She was a 50-year member of the Order of the Eastern Star in Wilton and Milford, where she served as Worthy Matron and Grand Representative to Wyoming and Texas.

Claire had a zest for life, throwing herself into charity work and organizing events for family, friends and the Wilton High School Class of 1965. She loved reading, her pets and researching family history.

Claire was devoted to her husband, Andrew J. Berwick, since the day they met in the parking lot of Hayward’s Ice Cream. They were married for 55 years. Besides Andrew, she is survived by sisters-in-law Hilda Wiggin of Peterborough and Rita Grugnale of Amherst, several nieces and nephews, and many loyal friends. She was predeceased by two sisters Geraldine Sue McQuade of Washington, NH and Linda Foster Gaffey of Keene.

Family and friends are warmly welcomed to attend a graveside service at Riverside Cemetery, 454 Nashua St., Milford, on Saturday May 11 at 11 a.m. A celebration of life luncheon will be held immediately afterwards at the VFW in Milford.
