Joan Evelyn Hyde

Joan E. Hyde, 85, resident of Lyndeborough, NH, died on February 24, 2024, with her loving family by her side.

She was born on December 25, 1938, in Boston, Massachusetts, a daughter of the late John Frances Hyde Sr. and Muriel Hazard Scott.

Joan grew up in Hollis New Hampshire and graduated from Appleton Academy High School in 1956.

She chose Nursing as a career graduating from St. Joseph’s Hospital School of Nursing as an RN. Upon graduating Joan worked at St. Joseph’s Hospital in the operating room for seven years, one year at Lake Forest Hospital operating room. Joan attended St. Joseph’s College, Maine and received a BS in Nursing. She completed post grad work in Oregon, worked at Boston City Hospital, King Faisial Hospital Riyahd Saudi Arabia 1978-1985, St. Joseph Hospital Nashua NH and the V.A. Hospital Manchester NH for nine years before retiring.

Joan’s nursing career brought her many great friendships and she enjoyed spending time with them over the last several months.

Joan was independent, had a will to help others. She was an avid Boston Sports Fan, enjoyed time well spent on watching her nieces and nephews play sports, gardening, home projects, loved to travel and her most enjoyable travels were to Greece, eventually obtaining property there.

She was a member of the Second Congregational Church, Wilton and was thankful for the friendships gained there.

She was predeceased by her parents John F. Hyde Sr. and Muriel Scott Hyde, her infant sister Katherine Hyde (4 days old, twin of John F. Hyde Jr.), Mary Hyde Leavitt and her late husband Milton Leavitt (Skeeter), John F. Hyde Jr., brother-in-law Bernard Amlaw, Nephews David Lambert and Matthew Amlaw.

Joan is survived by her loving sisters whom she enjoyed spending time and traveling with, Ruth Lambert of Keene NH, Anne Amlaw of Keene NH, a brother, George Hyde of Rochester, NH and special family members in Concord N.H., the State of Washington and Oklahoma.

Although Joan never had her own children, she was an amazing Aunt, Great Aunt and Great Great Aunt, she loved each of them as if they were her own, they were grateful to have her in their lives.

Joan shared a special bond with her great nephew Levi Joseph Hyde and will miss him dearly.

SERVICES: Calling hours will be held on Sunday, March 3, 2024, from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM in the Smith & Heald Funeral Home, 63 Elm Street, Milford, NH. A graveside service will be held in the spring in East cemetery, Hollis, NH, date and time to be announced on our website.
