Milford’s DeBernardo makes statement at tourney

Call it a midseason statement, and note the weight class. Milford High senior Ricky DeBernardo put on a show at the rugged 18-team Nashua High Paul Bellavance Hall of Fame Tournament.

DeBernardo, trimmed down and in great shape at 160 pounds, finished third overall in the event. The 160-pound class included reigning Division I state champ, Tristian Cabinta, of Salem, who took the title, so it was loaded.

Cabinta beat a Vermont wrestler in the finals, so that bodes well for DeBernardo, who seems to be climbing to his peak at just the right time.

Dominic Goulette was the only other Spartan matman to place in the event He took 4th at 195 pounds.
