AMHERST – It was going to take a dream job to wrest Dan Wyborney from the Nashua schools.

“I have developed so many relationships there,” said the Nashua South physical education instructor. “There was an excitement there on a daily basis with the kids.”

Well, Wyborney’s dream has come true. The Amherst resident has been named the new Director of Athletics at Souhegan High School, effective July 1. He replaces Dick Miller, who is retiring.

“It’s an exciting, new adventure, something I’m looking forward to as the next step in my career,” said Wyborney, who will finish out the school year at South.

“It’s definitely going to come with different challenges every day. Each day’s challenge will be different, and I’ll have to learn from the experiences.”

Wyborney is no stranger at Souhegan. A longtime soccer coach at Nashua North, he took over the Saber girls program this past fall.

It’s a position that he will continue to hold while working as the AD.

“I need to be able to stay on the field, do my thing on the sideline,” said Wyborney. “It’s important, as an AD. It’s important to be in the trenches with your coaches, understand their needs and it’s important for me to keep doing what I love doing as well.”

He assumes control of one of the more successful mid-sized school programs in the Granite State.

“There been a lot of success and tradition, already in place there,” he said. “There’s a pretty large commitment to athletics from the student body. The groundwork is laid there. I’ll be there massaging it and putting my little twist on it.”

He will also have an ace-in-the-hole with his former boss just a phone call, text or email away.

“(Nashua AD) Lisa Gingras will be a great shoulder to rely on,” said Wyborney. “She’s one of the best in the business. It’s sad to leave, but they understand what I have, and I’m excited to carry on the next step of my career.”
